UNFPA is the lead UN agency for delivering a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe and every young person's potential is fulfilled. UNFPA expands choices and possibilities for women and young people to lead healthy and productive lives. The UNFPA Country Office (CO) in Bosnia and Herzegovina was established in 1995.

Under the direct supervision and guidance of SRH and Youth Program Analyst, the intern will support the operational aspect of the Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) program component within the UNFPA BIH Programmatic Priorities of the UNSDCF 2022-2025, focusing on supporting interactions and relations with governmental and non-governmental stakeholders and partners. Namely, Intern will support communication with different stakeholders and partners, as well as the organization of virtual and physical meetings including logistical support.

A work plan with achievements for the duration of the Internship and learning opportunities will be agreed upon. Regular meetings with Intern and close contact via email, discussing processes and work-related outcomes will lead to a beneficial environment for the Intern.

Internship assignments vary in length according to the academic requirements of the intern, as well as the needs of the organization. This internship assignment lasts six months (upon successful completion of 3 months probation period) but may be extended up to a maximum of nine months if the intern can demonstrate that it will award them an educational credit for a course.

Tasks and responsibilities

UNFPA is seeking candidates that transform, inspire and deliver high impact and sustainable results. We need interns who are exceptional in how they manage the resources entrusted to them and who commit to deliver excellence in programme results.

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants to the internship programme must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:

Be enrolled in a postgraduate degree programme (such as a master’s programme, or higher);
Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (such as bachelor’s degree or equivalent);
Have recently graduated with a university degree (as defined in (a) and (b) above) and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation;
Be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program and undertake the internship as part of this program.
Learning Elements

Upon completion of the assignment, and depending on its duration, the Intern should have gained:

Increased understanding of the UN system;
Understanding of the UNFPA core mandate and policies;
Understanding of the dynamics of collaboration with Government and stakeholders;
Strong organizational skills for high level conversations/meetings/events;
Improved writing and communication skills;
Networking with colleagues and public health actors collaborating on UNFPA mandate;
Work as a team member in a dynamic environment.
